The PM Vishwakarma Yojana aims to uplift and support artisans and craftspeople, known as “Vishwakarmas,” who form a significant part of India’s informal workforce, including blacksmiths, potters, carpenters, and others.
This scheme, with a budget of ₹13,000 crore, seeks to improve the quality and reach of their products, enabling Vishwakarmas to integrate into domestic and global value chains, ultimately enhancing their socio-economic status and quality of life.
The PM Vishwakarma scheme will operate as a Central Sector Scheme fully funded by the Government of India, implemented over five years (until 2027-28). The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) will serve as the nodal ministry, with collaboration from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Department of Financial Services.
About PM Vishwakarma Yojana
The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a government initiative in India aimed at supporting traditional artisans and craftspeople, often referred to as “Vishwakarmas.” These individuals work in various trades, including blacksmithing, pottery, carpentry, sculpting, and more, often within the informal sector of the economy.
The scheme seeks to enhance their skills, modernize their tools, and help integrate them into national and global markets, thereby improving their economic status and quality of life.
Key Features of the scheme
- PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID Card: Artisans and craftspeople are given a unique digital ID and a certificate that allows them to access all scheme benefits.
